Will I need Medication?
In our initial consultation, and on an ongoing basis, we will determine whether a consultation for medication would be most appropriate for you. There is also the question of whether or not you are comfortable treating your symptoms pharmacologically; some people are, many people are not. Often times a two-pronged approach of medication with psychotherapy is most effective.
When will I feel better?
Most people come to a therapist because they are psychologically in pain. Many people feel some immediate relief after their first consultation. Because every person is different and each situation is unique, I cannot say how long the therapeutic process will take. However, we should have a better idea after your initial consultation. In many cases, people do notice improvements in mood throughout the process and experience the benefits of therapy early in treatment.
How will talking about my past help me now?
Understanding the history of any problem can often help us better understand current conflicts.
How long will I need to come in?
Again, I treat every client as a unique individual. Some clients only need to come in for an initial consultation while others depend on the therapist for a little longer -- at all times working towards self-sufficiency and autonomy. Together, we will continue to assess your need for treatment and make this decision, as therapist and client, based on how you are feeling and what your needs are at that time.
What will we talk about?
We will talk about whatever is important to you and whatever is on your mind. It is most important for me to understand how you experience your emotional life.Usually, as you become comfortable with the process, you have no shortage of topics to talk about during your therapy hour.
How can I trust a stranger?
It is normal, even healthy, to have anxiety and concerns sharing
private information and feelings with a stranger. Trust is
built over time and will develop during treatment over time.
